Itinerary Highlights

Day 1Arrival Leh (Alt: 11500 / 3505 M) - Acclimatization / Orientation.

Arrive Leh and transfer to the hotel. After welcome drink / breakfast take complete rest for acclimatization to the high altitude and rarefied air of Ladakh. In the late afternoon proceed on a short orientation tour of the old city center and take leisurely walks through the main markets of this historic town. Wind up the tour with a visit to the Shanti Stupa, a prominent landmark perched upon a hillock commanding panoramic views of Leh City and the valley. Overnight at Leh.

Day 2In Leh: Visit Sangam - Spituk Monastery-Hall of Fame / 80 kms round trip.

After a leisurely breakfast drive to visit Sangam (confluence of Indus & Zanskar Rivers).. On the way back towards Leh, en-route stopping to check the unique magnetic effect on vehicles at Magnetic Point, & visit Gurudwara Pathar Sahib. Thereafter drive up a hill to visit the dramatically located Spituk Monastery. Finally on this circuit, visit the Hall of Fame (museum of military heritage) & War Memorial. Rest of the day free to explore the City Centre & Leh market etc. Overnight at Leh.

Day 3Leh- Khardungla Pass - Nubra Valley / 125 kms / 4 – 5 hours

After breakfast leave for Nubra Valley, driving across Khardung-la (alt: 18,380 ft.), highest motorable pass in the world. Nubra Valley lies at an average altitude of 10,000 ft. Till closure of the trans-Karakoram trade route by the Chinese in 1949, Nubra Valley was a busy trade corridor on the Central Asian trade route network.Reach Deskit / Hunder in the afternoon and explore the area and the white Sand Dunes where you can also take a short camel Safari on the double-humped Bactrian camel found here (optional - direct payment). Overnight at Nubra.

Day 4In Nubra: Excursion to Turtuk (Border region): 180 kms round trip / 6 hours.

After breakfast, drive to TURTUK, the beautiful enclave of Balti people at about 80 kms from Hundar. Scenically magnificent the whole way, the grand rock valley briefly narrows near the tiny Changmar village after which the few, green splashes of village change culturally and linguistically from Buddhist-Ladakhi to Muslim-Balti. The upper half of Turtuk has unforgettable views across the barley fields towards the high peaks of Pakistan whose front line is only 07 km away. Turtuk was in Pakistan until the 1971 war when it was captured by India. In the afternoon, drive back along the same route. Overnight at Hundar ( Nubra)

Day 5Nubra Valley - Shyok Valley- Durbuk- Pangong / 155 kms / 5 hours.

After breakfast, proceed to explore Deskit (headquarters of Nubra valley) and visit the gigantic image of Maitreya Buddha (32 mtrs) seated out on a hillock which was inaugurated by The Dalai Lama in 2010. Thereafter, drive up the hillside to visit the 15th century Deskit Monastery dramatically located on a rock promontory overlooking Nubra valley. Later, drive upstream the Shyok River valley amidst magnificent mountain sceneries to approach Pangong Lake, by-passing the Khardungla route. The road passes through the pretty villages of Aghyam, Shyok & Durbuk en-route to Pangong Lake (alt: 14,500 ft.), which is the largest brackish water lake of Asia, about 4-5 kms wide and about 135 kms long, of which some two-third portion lies on the other side of the Indo-China border. Overnight at Pangong Lake.

Day 6Pangong Lake – Thiksey - Leh / Approx. 165 kms. / 6 hours

Post Breakfast, check out from camp. Proceed for Leh & On arrival check in to the hotel. Spend a day at leisure. In the late afternoon drive to the city for an orientation walk in the markets, followed by a visit to Shanti Stupa‚ Leh palace. Dinner and overnight in Leh.

After breakfast proceed for Indus Valley Monastery Starting with Hemis Gompa, the largest monastic foundation of Drukpa Kagyu Order of Tibetan Buddhism, Thiksey Monastery an impressive complex rising tier upon tier on a hill above the village, Visit 3 Idiots Rancho School & Sindhu Ghat. After visiting the above places, we drove back to Leh. Dinner and overnight in Leh

Day 8Departure Leh: Transfer to Airport.
